ZANZIBAR ISLAND

The exquisitely beautiful island of Zanzibar on Africa’s east coast is brimming with culture and history with a perfect blend of the most aesthetic white-sandy beaches with palms swaying lazily in the sea breeze. Zanzibar, also known as Spice Island, for it’s historic and timeless spice trade, is the semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa which consists of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, comprising of a microcosm of many small islands and two large ones; Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic center is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.

The coastline offers some of the best and idyllic beaches in the world forming a great spot to unwind and famous for beach tourism, with the east coast waves breaking over imminent marine life; coral reefs and sand bars offshore, and low tide reveals small pools of marine life. The Chole Island Marine Park just off Stone Town makes a refreshing day-trip and a good break from exploring the winding walkways of the old city with a nearby Prison, Grave, and Snake Islands, with the Menai Conservation Bay area in the south coast harboring a sea turtle protection area for the endangered species that come to breed on the island, and a Dolphin Bay  tourist zone famous for it’s Dolphins in the wild shores. The Jozani Forest, home to Zanzibar’s rare Red Colobus monkeys and a few other primate and small antelope species is also a prime tourist spot.
